Summary
Global Gaming League (GGL), founded by music industry entrepreneur Clinton Sparks, has raised $10m to launch its gaming tournaments seeing celebrity-owned teams compete.
It is not an esports league, but entertains all types of gamers in a multigenerational league that mixes music, sports, celebs, competition, and culture.
Teams are owned 50/50 by GGL and celebrity “franchise players”, who do not have to manage staffing or finances, and do not take on any financial risk.
There are more than three billion gamers globally, with gaming predicted to generate $300bn by 2026, surpassing every other entertainment medium.
GGL will launch its own events space in Las Vegas, The Campus, which will include the most advanced technology in broadcasting.
Its launch will also include GGL Academy, a programme to train, mentor, and connect wannabe gamers and content creators to jobs in the gaming and entertainment industry.
GGL is also launching a global search for the next gaming stars to draft onto its teams.
