Chip maker Nvidia is building factories in Arizona and Texas, US, to manufacture AI supercomputers, in a boost to America’s economic and tech prowess.
Huang added the move to on-shore chip manufacturing was to “better meet the incredible and growing demand for AI chips and supercomputers, strengthens our supply chain and boosts our resiliency”.
The company is partnering with Taiwan’s TSMC, which has committed to spending $100bn on US factories in the future as part of a pledge to boost US national security through domestic production of semiconductors.
The move follows a US executive order encouraging government procurement of domestically made chips and a national semiconductor strategy that aims to address the chips shortage.
