  • Israeli edtech company eSelf, which creates AI companions to help students with their learning, has announced a partnership with Harvard University and the Centre for Educational Technology (CET) to bring its AI tutors to every student in Israel.
  • As part of the pilot programme, due to begin in May with 10,000 students, avatars will provide virtual tutoring, adapting to each individual’s strengths and weaknesses and providing personalised guidance in a language of the user’s choice.
  • The rollout will cover all subjects from mathematics to computer science, and is expected to cost students around 20 per month.
  • Tzachi Langer, vice president of marketing and product at CET said the programme would “redefine personalised learning for students”.
  • Victor Pereira, faculty and co-chair of the teaching and teaching leadership programme at Harvard, said the initiative “shows how AI can be used for good”.
  • This comes as UNESCO’s 2023 report revealed a global teacher shortage of 44 million, exacerbated by the pandemic.
