IXI raises $36.5M for world’s first autofocus glasses

Summary
Finnish start-up IXI has raised $36.5m in funding to develop autofocus glasses that can dynamically correct users’ vision.
Rather than being designed purely as a medical device, the glasses have been imagined as a lifestyle accessory akin to other consumer tech products.
The eyewear will adapt to wearers’ eye movements, automatically focusing to give the sharpest vision possible, and will be launched in the company’s first generation of products.
IXI was founded in 2021 by Niko Eiden and Ville Miettenen, who also established Varjo, a company making advanced virtual reality devices.
The new funding, led by London-based investment fund Plural, will be used to develop the product and put it on the market.
