Summary
US games developer PlayNice has launched MindLight, an action-adventure video game aimed at helping children cope with stress and anxiety.
The game turns a player’s emotional responses into game inputs in real time using a biofeedback headband that captures brain wave and heart rate data.
The player’s ability to control their anxiety levels influences the game environment; the calmer they are, the brighter the landscape becomes.
According to chief scientist Isabela Granic, MindLight is as effective as cognitive behavioural therapy and can reduce anxiety by at least half.
The game is available for subscription on Windows, Android and Apple, costing 6.99/monthor59.99/year for an individual user, or 9.99/monthor99.99/year for a family subscription.
