NCSoft makes strategic equity investment in FPS studio Emptyvessel

South Korean gaming company NCSoft has acquired a minority stake in Emptyvessel, a Texas-based development studio which is creating the cyberpunk shooter game Defect.
Emptyvessel was founded by developers who had previously worked at prominent companies including Activision, Disney and Naughty Dog.
While the financial terms of the deal were not disclosed, NCSoft’s North American subsidiary NC West completed the investment, with both firms looking to collaborate further in the future.
The deal is the latest in a series of strategic investments by NCSoft aimed at building partnerships with developers globally and comes after it recently invested in Polish firm Virtual Alchemy, Korean firm Mistil Games and Swedish firm Moon Rover Games.
