OpenAI, Microsoft tell Senate ‘no one country can win AI’

Artificial intelligence (AI) firms have told US policymakers that streamlining the process of building infrastructure, such as data centres, is key to the country maintaining its lead in AI, according to a Senate Committee on Commerce, Science and Transportation hearing.
CEOs of OpenAI, AMD, Coreweave and Microsoft presented the arguments for more construction to take place.
An executive from Microsoft stated the company’s AI Tech Stack theory, where innovation requires infrastructure, platform and application levels to work together.
The hearing coincided with the US Commerce Department announcing it was modifying some of the export restrictions on AI technology by Biden’s administration, which were to be implemented on 15 May.
The Biden administration previously created rules around the development and deployment of AI, but these were revoked by the Trump administration.
