Square Enix’s Symbiogenesis onchain game debuts on Sony’s Soneium blockchain

Summary
The first instance of a major publisher releasing a web3 game, Symbiogenesis, will be expanded to the Soneium blockchain, rather than being discontinued in July 2025 as originally planned.
Sony has said that other major game studios and entertainment companies are also looking to collaborate on Soneium, as the ecosystem supports cross-game collaboration, interoperability and creative ownership.
While it is unclear how much Symbiogenesis will be expanded, players that complete the game will be eligible to participate in further titles on the Soneium network, such as Evermoon and Sleepagotchi.
The companies behind the titles reportedly aim to capture the spirit of collaboration in web3, bringing different IPs and stories together through new forms of interoperability, onchain.
