MCP is designed to allow for language models built under different frameworks to interact with each other, and as such has been widely embraced by large tech firms like Google, Cisco and Microsoft.
The rush to establish an MCP server has been driven by the desire to set up an infrastructure for interoperability, with many in the industry convinced that MCP will become the standard protocol in the near future, if it isn’t already.
The move to MCP has also been driven by the limitations of API, the previous standard for model interaction, which doesn’t allow for sufficient control for enterprises, giving fine-grained control for organisations to expose the capabilities they need.
